About Costa Rica Tokens
Welcome and thanks for visiting my site. I have created this site with the hopes of expanding everyone's knowledge of coffee tokens from Costa Rica. It is widely understood that coffee tokens circulated in Costa Rica since the late nineteenth century and all through the twentieth. This form of payment to coffee pickers and farm hands was not exclusive to Costa Rica. Many Latin countries adopted this form of payment as a normal way of doing business.  

One Costa Rican writer decided to write a small book about coffee plantations he visited throughout the country. In his book he made graphical representations of the tokens used plus he talked a bit about the farms and their locations. The next book written was by an American author and he too expanded on tokens.  

From these early works we learn to appreciate and expand our knowledge of the hobby called exonumia, the collecting of tokens. The hobby has grown so much that Costa Rican tokens are being sold and traded almost daily throughout the world. There are auction houses in the United States selling Costa Rican tokens and the same tokens are being sold on eBay. There is a coin show in San Jose, Costa Rica once a month where registered members display their items for sale; a large part of that includes tokens. I welcome you to the hobby as well as to my site. Please help me spread the word around about Costa Rican tokens.
