The Costa Rica Tokens
Thank you for visiting our tokens section. I would like to briefly describe the three tokens shown. First item of mention will be the denomination. Unique to Costa Rica is the term Cajuela which translates to bushel. Cajuelas were filled with ripe coffee beans and the workers were paid with boletos (tokens). Depending on the amount of coffee beans picked determined what the picker was paid. That is the reason for the different denominations. Lastly, it is widely known that the denominations were centimos and colon. Not pesos and centavos as is the case in other Latin countries.
